Geothermal Reservoirs in Hydrothermal Convection Systems

چکیده

T Abstract Geothermal reservoirs commonly exist in hydrothermal convection systems involving fluid circulation downward in areas of recharge and upwards in areas of discharge. Because such reservoirs are not isolated from their surroundings, the nature of thermal and hydrologic connections with the rest of the system may have significant effects on the natural state of the reservoir and on its response to development. Conditions observed at numerous developed and undeveloped geothermal fields are discussed with respect to a basic model of the discharge portion of an active hydrothermal convection system. Effects of reservoir development on surficial discharge of thermal fluid are also delineated.

Determining the Maximum Depth of Hydrothermal Circulation Using Geothermal Mapping and Seismicity to Delineate the Depth to Brittle-Plastic Transition in Northern Honshu, Japan

This paper defines the maximum possible vertical extent of hydrothermal circulation in granitic crust, and thus the maximum depth within which geothermal reservoirs can be encountered. To evaluate prospective geothermal fields we constructed a geothermal database in northern Honshu, Japan that includes 571 points of thermal data of existing wells and hot springs. Depth-temperature curves were n...

Geothermal Energy Transport in Recent Volcanism Areas (kamchatka and Kurile Islands ) : Some Examples and Conceptual Model

Geothermal energy transported to earth surface through volcanoes and hydrothermal systems. Based on numerical model analysis of deep drilling and exploitation data of some Kamchatka and Kurile Islands geothermal reservoirs , and heat and mass flow rates estimations of some Kamchatka volcanoes , the following conceptual model of geothermal energy transport is suggested : if magma trapped in uppe...

Evolution History of the Kakkonda Magma-hydrothermal System, Japan, Estimated through Simplified-model Numerical Simulatlons

At the Kakkonb geothermal area, Japan, a large Quaternary granitic body is dstributed below ca 2.5 km ckpth from the surface, associating with thick high-temperature contact me&amorphic zones in the overlying formations, and a meteoric-water-cbminated type hydrothermal system is developedat present time. During the 'Deep-seated Geothermal Resources Survey', WD-la well was drilled to 3729 m dept...

Non-magmatic fracture-controlled hydrothermal systems in the Idaho Batholith: South Fork Payette geothermal system

Non-magmatic, fracture-controlled hydrothermal systems located within and near the Idaho batholith have been examined and evaluated for potential application as natural analogues to high-level nuclear waste repositories. Detailed geochemical, Ž . petrologic, and structural studies of hot springs along the South Fork of the Payette River SFPR in central Idaho, USA, have been combined to assess t...

Instabilities during Liquid Migration into Superheated Hydrothermal Systems

Hydrothermal systems typically consist of hot permeable rock which contains either liquid or liquid and saturated steam within the voids. These systems vent fluids at the surface through hot springs, fumaroles, mud pools, steaming ground and geysers. They are simultaneously recharged as meteoric water percolates through the surrounding rock or through the active injection of water at various ge...
